Alors que le recyclage m\u00e9canique consiste principalement \u00e0 nettoyer et \u00e0 reformer le plastique, le recyclage chimique va plus loin en modifiant la structure chimique du plastique afin de pouvoir aussi transformer les flux de plastiques contamin\u00e9s en nouveaux plastiques destin\u00e9s \u00e0 des applications de haute qualit\u00e9. Le <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC11207984\/).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KIDV<\/a> d\u00e9crit que le flux entrant du recyclage chimique peut \u00eatre constitu\u00e9 de flux de d\u00e9chets plastiques complexes tels que les films et les stratifi\u00e9s, les rejets de tri et de recyclage, et les d\u00e9chets plastiques m\u00e9lang\u00e9s. C&rsquo;est pourquoi il est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 par de nombreux organismes, tels que le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rvo.nl\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-02\/online-version_Chemical-Recycling-in-Circular-Perspective-Aug23.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RVO<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/plasticseurope.org\/nl\/themas\/circulariteit\/recycling\/chemische-recycling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plastics Europe<\/a>, le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vnci.nl\/standpunten\/standpunt\/chemische-recycling-onmisbaar-voor-meer-hergebruik-van-afval\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VNCI<\/a> et la <a href=\"https:\/\/environment.ec.europa.eu\/news\/commission-consults-new-rules-chemically-recycled-content-plastic-bottles-2025-07-08_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commission europ\u00e9enne<\/a>, comme une solution pour les plastiques qui ne peuvent pas \u00eatre recycl\u00e9s m\u00e9caniquement.<\/p>\n<p>Si le recyclage chimique semble prometteur, beaucoup d&rsquo;incertitudes subsistent, notamment parce que les technologies sont relativement nouvelles et ne sont pas encore utilis\u00e9es \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle<a href=\"#footnotes-nl\"><span style=\"position: relative; font-size: 12px; line-height: 0; vertical-align: baseline; top: -0.5em;\"><span id=\"footnote-ref-0\" style=\"position: relative; font-size: 9px; line-height: 0; vertical-align: baseline; top: -0.5em;\">[1]<\/span><\/span><\/a>. Dans cet article, nous approfondisons ce sujet : nous expliquons ce qu&rsquo;est exactement le recyclage chimique, quelles sont les diff\u00e9rentes technologies existantes et quels types de flux de d\u00e9chets elles peuvent traiter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>aper\u00e7u des technologies<\/h3>\n<p>Il n&rsquo;existe pas encore de d\u00e9finition univoque du recyclage chimique, ni de d\u00e9limitation claire des technologies qui en rel\u00e8vent. En effet, les m\u00e9thodes utilis\u00e9es varient consid\u00e9rablement dans leur capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9composer les plastiques. Pour simplifier, nous d\u00e9finissons le recyclage chimique dans cet article comme les quatre technologies suivantes :<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"#oplossing\"><strong>Dissolution (dissolution et s\u00e9paration du polym\u00e8re)<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"#depolymerisatie\"><strong>D\u00e9polym\u00e9risation (d\u00e9composition en monom\u00e8res)<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"#pyrolyse\"><strong>Pyrolyse (d\u00e9composition en produits huileux)<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"#vergassing\"><strong>Gaz\u00e9ification (d\u00e9composition en gaz simples)<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Ces technologies peuvent \u00eatre class\u00e9es en fonction du degr\u00e9 de d\u00e9gradation des d\u00e9chets plastiques, comme l&rsquo;illustre la figure 1<a href=\"#footnotes-nl\"><span style=\"position: relative; font-size: 12px; line-height: 0; vertical-align: baseline; top: -0.5em;\"><span id=\"footnote-ref-0\" style=\"position: relative; font-size: 9px; line-height: 0; vertical-align: baseline; top: -0.5em;\">[1<\/span><span id=\"footnote-ref-1\" style=\"position: relative; font-size: 9px; line-height: 0; vertical-align: baseline; top: -0.5em;\">,2<\/span><span id=\"footnote-ref-2\" style=\"position: relative; font-size: 9px; line-height: 0; vertical-align: baseline; top: -0.5em;\">,3<\/span><\/span><\/a><a href=\"#footnotes-nl\"><span style=\"position: relative; font-size: 12px; line-height: 0; vertical-align: baseline; top: -0.5em;\"><span id=\"footnote-ref-0\" style=\"position: relative; font-size: 9px; line-height: 0; vertical-align: baseline; top: -0.5em;\">]<\/span><\/span><\/a>. Dans les processus \u00e0 cha\u00eene courte (dissolution et d\u00e9polym\u00e9risation), la cha\u00eene mol\u00e9culaire reste autant que possible intacte et peu d&rsquo;\u00e9tapes sont n\u00e9cessaires pour obtenir des produits finaux utilisables. Les processus \u00e0 cha\u00eene longue (pyrolyse et gaz\u00e9ification), en revanche, d\u00e9composent davantage le plastique en mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res, qui doivent ensuite \u00eatre transform\u00e9es en produits utilisables par l&rsquo;industrie chimique. Cela n\u00e9cessite plus d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et d&rsquo;\u00e9tapes de traitement, ce qui augmente g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement l&rsquo;impact sur le climat. Il existe toutefois des avanc\u00e9es, telles que <a href=\"https:\/\/coolbrook.com\/news\/coolbrook-achieves-breakthrough-in-circular-materials-large-scale-pilot-successfully-cracks-plastic-waste-pyrolysis-oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CoolBrook<\/a> qui craquent 100 % d&rsquo;huile de pyrolyse, mais ces m\u00e9thodes ne sont pas encore \u00e9volutives.<\/p>\n<p>Comme l&rsquo;huile de pyrolyse est toujours m\u00e9lang\u00e9e \u00e0 du naphta fossile pour la production de plastique, le mat\u00e9riau recycl\u00e9 est chimiquement impossible \u00e0 distinguer du mat\u00e9riau fossile. La <a href=\"https:\/\/environment.ec.europa.eu\/news\/commission-consults-new-rules-chemically-recycled-content-plastic-bottles-2025-07-08_en?prefLang=nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commission Europ\u00e9enne<\/a> prescrit donc l&rsquo;utilisation de bilans massiques pour calculer la part de plastique recycl\u00e9 dans le produit final. Pour une capacit\u00e9 de 100 kilotonnes par an, les co\u00fbts d&rsquo;investissement s&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e8vent \u00e0 81,9 millions d&rsquo;euros et les co\u00fbts d&rsquo;exploitation annuels \u00e0 40,8 euros.<\/p>\n<p>Les co\u00fbts de production s&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e8vent \u00e0 449 \u20ac par tonne de d\u00e9chets plastiques, les co\u00fbts les plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s \u00e9tant li\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;utilisation de gaz industriels. Le b\u00e9n\u00e9fice est n\u00e9gatif et s&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 -89 \u20ac par tonne de d\u00e9chets plastiques, mais il suppose que le m\u00e9thanol est produit \u00e0 partir du gaz de synth\u00e8se obtenu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Les technologies ont le potentiel de produire des polym\u00e8res de qualit\u00e9 vierge, qui peuvent \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s pour des applications de haute qualit\u00e9. Le recyclage chimique peut \u00eatre particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressant pour les emballages multicouches complexes, les flux textiles et les plastiques m\u00e9lang\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Dans le m\u00eame temps, ces technologies en sont encore \u00e0 un stade relativement pr\u00e9coce de leur d\u00e9veloppement technique. Pour de nombreux processus, on ne sait pas encore avec certitude dans quelle mesure ils sont stables, quelle variation des flux de d\u00e9chets ils peuvent supporter et dans quelle mesure les am\u00e9liorations technologiques, telles que les catalyseurs qui peuvent rendre les processus plus efficaces, vont r\u00e9ellement se d\u00e9velopper. De plus, tous les types de plastiques ne peuvent pas \u00eatre trait\u00e9s : la d\u00e9polym\u00e9risation ne traite que les polym\u00e8res de condensation tels que le PET et le PA, tandis que la pyrolyse convient principalement au PE et au PP et moins au PVC ou au PET.<\/p>\n<p>En outre, les diff\u00e9rentes technologies ont leurs propres limites. L&rsquo;un des principaux d\u00e9fis des processus \u00e0 cha\u00eene courte est leur tol\u00e9rance limit\u00e9e aux contaminants, qui les rend d\u00e9pendants de flux homog\u00e8nes, bien tri\u00e9s et lav\u00e9s. Cela rend la mise \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle complexe, malgr\u00e9 l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 relativement \u00e9lev\u00e9e du plastique au plastique.
